Syros dominates the heart of the Aegean with the dynamic character and the cosmopolitan grace of a bourgeois. A sovereign power based in Ermoupolis, the capital of the island but also of the Cyclades, which maintains and highlights the glamor of another era, a history that unfolds through the labyrinthine alleys, the numerous old mansions and neoclassical buildings, the medieval Upper traditional Cycladic villages, the Orthodox and Catholic churches, the lacy shores, the blue sea and the fairytale natural landscape.

KASTRI

At a distance of about 45 minutes from Halandriani a prehistoric settlement was discovered from the end of the Early Cycladic period II that covers an area of 3.5 – 5 acres. The excavations in this area brought to light a cemetery with about 600 tombs, as well as findings of incalculable value that show that pottery, stonework and metalwork had developed in the area. The various pottery, jewelry and household items that were also found during the excavations in the wider area indicate that it was a highly developed settlement. The two archeological sites of Chalandriani and Kastri are connected by a long and inaccessible path that is worth following, however, as it leads to the depths of history.
